Michigan GranuFlo Lawsuit

|

GranuFlo LawsuitThrough the filing of a Michigan GranuFlo lawsuit, those that have been injured by this dry acid concentrate may receive substantial compensation. Subsequently, a growing number of reports suggest that improper prescriptions of GranuFlo are responsible for serious and potentially life-threatening side effects. Those prescribed GranuFlo in conjunction with the standard practice of sodium bicarbonate may experience adverse cardiac events. Of particular concern, however, are reports that the developer of GranuFlo knew of these problems in 2011, yet failed to provide consumers with adequate warnings.

Michigan GranuFlo Lawsuit Overview

Administered during kidney dialysis, GranuFlo is indicated to remove harmful toxins from the blood and replace vital nutrients that were lost in the process. Furthermore, this concentrate was formulated for the use in a three-stream hemodialysis machine, which is calibrated for acid and bicarbonate concentrates. Therefore, GranuFlo, in conjunction with sodium bicarbonate, provides patients with a means of cleaning their blood while their kidneys are unable to.

Many clinicians may be unaware, however, that GranuFlo reintroduces patients to sodium bicarbonate. As such, standard procedure has practitioners prescribe sodium bicarbonate during dialysis to restore blood pH levels back to normal. The simultaneous administration of bicarbonate and GranuFlo may introduce a recipient to dangerous amounts of the compound. Therefore, the manufacturer is cautioning clinicians to be aware of the concentration of acetate or sodium diacetate (acetic acid plus acetate) contained in Granuflo Dry Acid Concentrate. Inappropriate prescription of these products can lead to a high serum bicarbonate level in patients undergoing hemodialysis.
